Welcome to this bi-weekly addition

From the Captains Desk

As the Captain, I’d like to share some insights into the club’s recent activities and exciting developments across the island and the courses we frequent.

I recently came across a couple of interesting articles that may have some relevance to us golfers in the future. You might find them intriguing as they discuss plans for significant developments in Bali. Check out these links:

Governor Confirms Plans to Build a Huge New Tourism Cultural Centre in East Bali

Opportunities for Collaboration in Bali

Busy Days on the Course

August saw a record-breaking number of rounds played at Bali National, also big numbers at New Kuta/Pandawa, highlighting just how much golfers from all over enjoy playing at these top-tier venues.

During September Bali National also hoisted the Amman Mineral Men’s World Tennis Championships were as over 300 national and international tennis athletes registered.

With the completion of a Tennis Club house in the future, this will help attract additional international tournaments to the venue in the near future as reported in the Bali News.

Course Upgrades

Bali National

Is undergoing major clubhouse renovations, creating a more refined space for post-round relaxation. We can’t wait to see the results which I have been told will be the next level experience!

The course continues to improve under the guidance of the management team, second cut trimmed, greens getting back to their former glory.
Due to the location of the newly developed tennis courts, Hole 16 has been converted to a par 4 with a new green to be opened this month for play and hole 1 is now rated as a Par 5 to keep the course rating.

Exciting upgrades are happening at the three main courses we play on, ensuring that the quality of our golfing experience only improves:

New Kuta

Is moving forward with plans for a 6-star hotel, as reported by the Bali Sun and other media outlets in June (https://thebalisun.com/6-star-oceanview-golf-hotel-coming-to-balis-jimbaran-resort/ ) which will be situated where the 15th hole currently stands. The redesign of the course is already in progress to accommodate this new feature, with a fresh layout announcement expected soon. Currently Hole 18 which was once a Par5 is now divided into a par 3 and par 4.  Later sources have told me 11 & 13 will become a par 5’s, and 16 a Par 4.

Handara Golf & Resort

Clubhouse Renovations: As received by the GM of Handara, I’m happy to report that our clubhouse renovations are making great progress! We’re currently revamping our restaurant, which will be known as the Orient Nine Restaurant and Tea House, featuring delicious ASEAN Fusion Food. We’re aiming to have it ready by the end of October. Additionally, golfers can look forward to a fresh men’s locker room, set to debut in January 2025, once renovations kick off in early November.

Course Conditions and Green Renovations: The course is in fantastic shape! We’re busy with green renovations focused on improving playability and aesthetics. While we’ll have three temporary greens in play at once, we expect Hole #10’s new green to be ready in about two months. The plan is to complete all 18 greens over the next 18 months, and we’re also sprucing up our greenside bunkers!

Upcoming Golfing Events: With the ongoing renovations, we’re holding off on club events for now. However, we have some private corporate tournaments lined up for October and November. I think the mid-November invitational tournament organized by Das Bistro will be of interest to Par-T-On members—I’ll keep you updated as I get more details.

Course Traffic: Just a heads up, the course tends to get busier on weekends and public holidays. If anyone from the Par-T-On club is looking for a quieter time, It’s recommend playing on Tuesdays through Thursdays. They would love to welcome Par-T-On to join the Handara members on Wednesdays!

Accommodation Availability: For those seeking a peaceful getaway, Mondays to Wednesdays are usually less busy, making it a perfect time to visit

Bukit Pandawa Golf and Country Club

Course condition, Regarding the course conditions, last week the course staff successfully addressed an insect issue that had been affecting the greens etc. After their diligent efforts, the course has made significant improvements, and conditions are now getting better and better for all to enjoy.

Golf Events, At present, there are no major internal tournaments planned, but the club will be hosting a few external events organized by other golf societies and playing groups.

Course Traffic: As for course traffic, weekends tend to be quite busy, reflecting high demand. Weekday traffic can vary, with some days seeing heavy bookings depending on group reservations.

As these projects at the course continue, we’re excited about the positive impact they will have on our club. Stay tuned for more updates as the developments progress.

Charity

On behalf of the Par-T-On committee and all its members, I have sent our heartfelt gratitude to the Marriott Business Group for their incredibly generous donation of 46 million IDR to the Dr. Suryani Institute for Mental Health Foundation. This contribution was facilitated through the agreement for Par-T-On’s role in assisting with the running of the Marriott International Bali Charity Golf Event, held at Bali National/Westin Resort on June 15th, 2024. The donation has made a significant impact by providing much-needed medicines and support to those in need.

Par-T-On would like to especially acknowledge the efforts of Christopher Smith and his team at Marriott Group, as well as Sami Benafia from Par-T-On, for their hard work and dedication in making this event a resounding success. Special thanks also go to Bali National Golf Club and the many hole sponsors that make the day what it is renowned for.
Please refer to Paul’s comments regarding the visit to Dr. Suryani on the 8th Oct 2024 for further details on the good work this foundation is doing.

See the further information in Paul’s charity notes below.

Charity update From Paul
Today the 8th of October, Anna, Muzz, and myself visited one off our charities. Suryani Institute for Mental Health Foundation. They were pleased to meet with us and give an update on their organization. They are thankful for donation from the Marriot, but unaware of ParTons input.? they are now aware!!. They are presently caring and treating around a hundred patient in the rural area.

While they receive some remuneration for hospital patients, as yet nothing for the rural outpatient. They have 6 field workers looking after the 100 outpatients, educating the villagers, and finding new patients who have been hidden by relatives due to Mental Health Stigma.

We also heard that they have a special school for mentally challenged children, with the aim of teaching them to be as independent as their disability will allow.

They have been fortunate to have Honda donate scooters to the field officers and are hoping to obtain an all Terrain vehicle from Toyota to allow access to rural areas.

Rather sad to hear that the founder Dr Luh Suryani is now in early stage dementia, but is in good hands as the son and family are now continuing to provide as much care as possible with the limited resources they have.

I think I can speak on behalf of Anna and Muzz that we were in the presence of a completely dedicated and committed team of Mental Health providers, and thoroughly recommend that ParTon continue to support this very worthy cause.
