In Memoriam: Ron Fletcher
It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of a dear friend and respected member of our golfing community here in Bali, Ron Fletcher.
Ron passed away peacefully over the weekend earlier this month at his family home in Bali. He was laid to rest on Friday, 22 November 2024, surrounded by the love and presence of his family.
Ron was not only a dedicated golfer but also a cherished figure in our community, always quick with a smile and a kind word. His presence on the course and in our lives will be deeply missed.
Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May Ron rest in eternal peace.

The committee
The committee wishes to inform you of the resignation of our Club Secretary, Jimmy Houghton, from the committee due to personal reasons. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Jimmy for his time, and valuable contributions in helping shape the club. We wish him all the best as he embarks on the next chapter of his life.
With Jimmy’s departure, we are inviting any member who may be interested in offering their assistance to the club by joining the committee. This is a great opportunity to become more involved in the continued growth and success of Par-T-On.
If you are interested, or would like to learn more about what the role involves, please feel free to contact one of the committee members.

Days on the Course:

Golfing in Bali’s Wet Season
As Bali transforms under the tropical rains, enhancing the beauty and challenge payability of our courses along with the rains comes thunderstorms and lighting.

Things to consider During Play:
1. Download a reliable radar app.
o Having a reliable radar with you at all times, equipped with a lighting detection/prediction mode, should be something everyone should have on their phones. Most of these types of apps have a radius of 10 miles (some more, some less) from your current location that is outlined on the radar. This is so you can tell how close the approaching storm, or more importantly, the last lightning strike was. Remember, the rain won’t kill you, but the lightning could so don’t focus on the radar as much as the lightning strikes. Have your own “personal radius” for when the bolts get too close. Ten miles is ideal just to be safe.
2. Check the courses policy at the pro-shop on lightning, listen out for the suspension of play warning.
3. Seek Shelter Immediately:
o Head to a designated lightning shelter if available.
o Avoid open areas, water, tall trees, or golf carts.
4. Do Not Use Shelter Under Trees: Trees attract lightning and can increase your risk.
5. Avoid Metal Objects:
o Drop your golf clubs, and stay away from fences, carts, or other metal objects.
6. Crouch Low if Caught in the Open:
o If you cannot find shelter, crouch down with your feet together, hands over your ears, and head tucked. Do not lie flat.
7. Brush up on your CPR Skills.

Please ensure your read the course T&C’s when it comes to Rain Checks which you can access through their websites, on the card or ask at the pro-shop during check-in.

News from the golf Calendar.

Please be reminded our game day at Bali National has been shifted to Friday’s with a 12:30 pm tee slot. We encourage all members to review the email previously sent, which outlines the conditions imposed on this allocated tee time. No other additional days were offered to Par-T-On as we have had before.
The committee has worked to address members’ concerns regarding the late finish at the course caused by the previous 1:00 pm tee time. We hope this adjustment provides a more enjoyable experience for all.
Additionally, as advised by Bali National, we will be unable to play under the Par-T-On terms during the period of 21st December to 5th January 2025. To ensure continuity, the club has shifted these games to Pandawa Golf Course. Please check Golf Genius for further details and to register for these games.

Golf News:

Bryson DeChambeau Finally Hit a Hole-in-One Over His House After 16 Days
It all started on Nov. 11 when DeChambeau posted a video of himself on TikTok hitting a shot over his house onto a putting green in the backyard. That video started a social media sensation in the golf world in which his followers would check back on DeChambeau’s progress each day.
DeChambeau allowed himself to take one shot on Day 1, two shots on Day 2, and so on. According to Golf Digest, the probability of a PGA Tour player making a hole-in-one on a 100-yard shot is about 1-in-500, meaning DeChambeau beat the odds achieving the feat on attempt No. 134. https://www.instagram.com/p/DC41F9DSSBd/

Tiger Woods announced Monday that he will not play in the Hero World Challenge this December as he continues to recover from back surgery.
Woods hosts the annual TOUR stop in the Bahamas but has played the event just once in the last three years as he’s navigated health issues. Woods underwent his sixth back surgery in September, aimed at alleviating back spasms and pain he experienced throughout the 2024 season.
Woods included Justin Thomas, Jason Day and Nick Dunlap as final three exemptions into 20-man field.
Tiger Woods, widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers in history, has confirmed that he has no plans to retire from professional golf anytime soon. In a statement that highlights his passion and resilience, Woods revealed his intention to continue competing until at least the age of 60.
This announcement is yet another testament to his determination and love for the game, even after overcoming significant challenges, including injuries and surgeries. Fans and the golfing community alike will be thrilled to see more of Tiger’s brilliance on the course in the coming years.
As he pushes forward, Woods continues to inspire a new generation of golfers while cementing his legendary status in the sport.

Answer to the picture quiz from last addition
The Picture of the golf hole, for those who have played this course is, the Soule of The mountain Handara’s Stone Bridge hole #3 https://youtu.be/zxc3cWEpKGo
About the course
Ibnu Sutowo, known as the father of Golf in Indonesia, started building Bali Handara Country Club in 1974 to share his passion of Golf and to provide employment for the local community. The stunning 18 Holes Golf Course was designed by five times British Open Champion, Peter Thomson, with his design associates, Michael Wolveridge and Ronald Fream. After two years of construction in 1976 Bali Handara Country Club opened its door to welcome golfers from around the world, including many high-ranking officials and head of states from different countries. In 1979 Golf Magazine Selection Committee voted Bali Handara Country Club as one of the Top 50 Greatest Courses in The World. 1986 Bali Handara Country Club formed a joint venture with Kosaido Club Japan and the move strengthen Bali Handara’s position in the Japanese market. The name then was changed into Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club. 2012 an unfortunate year for Handara. After a week long constant rain, the trees around the resort couldn’t hold the heavy downpour resulting in a mudslide that damaged the east wing. Thankfully there were no other casualties. The disaster prompted the re-building and re-branding efforts.

Golf Trivia:

Last Additions Answer to What’s the oldest golf course in the Indonesia
Jakarta Golf Club (JGC) that we know today is the oldest golf course in Indonesia. JGC was established in 1872 with the name Batavia Golf Club (BGC). The existence of BGC is recorded in the Golfing Annual, a book that reviews the development of golf based on the formation of golf courses, along with Bon Accord Golf Club and Wimbledon Ladies’ Golf, which were established in the same year. However, the name of Batavia Golf Club was known through the decision of the Governor of the Dutch East Indies in Buitenzorg on September 16, 1932 who authorised the club’s name on August 28, 1932.

Before that year (1932), there was no official identity of Batavia Golf Club. Several sources mention that there was the first golf course in Indonesia (formerly known as the Dutch East Indies because it was under the Kingdom of the Netherlands) which was established in 1872 on the initiative of British expats living in Batavia.

The JGC website states that the location of the Batavia Golf Club was originally around the National Monument facing the current Supreme Court building. The field had nine holes, but then it was moved to Rawamangun, built up to 18 holes as it is today.

In 1950, when the sovereignty was handed over to the Indonesian government, Batavia Golf Club officially changed to Djakarta Golf Club Indonesia. Then, on December 13, 1970, Djakarta Golf Club Indonesia changed again to Jakarta Golf Club which is now known until now.
